On June 30 nuclear-powered icebreakers of Rosatomflot Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE) completed their contractual work of winter-spring navigation 2016-2017. The tourist season will last till mid August.
According to Rosatomflot press centre, from November 2016 to June 2017 Rosatomflot’s icebreakers made 102 calls to Sabetta port under agreement with Yamal LNG, 54 calls to oil terminal at Kamenny Cape under agreement with Gazprom Neft, and 6 vessels were escorted to the Cape of Chayka under agreement with VostokUgol.
Aleksander Nikifirov, Head of Atomflot Fleet Management Group, says “Yamal” and “50 Let Pobedy” icebreakers escorted vessels from Zhelaniya Cape and the Kara Gate Strait to the Gulf of Ob. “Taimyr” and “Vaygach” icebreakers operated in the Gulf of Ob. Between January and May 2017, icebreakers ensured smooth operation at the access canal of the Yenisei Bay to Dudinka port.
As of today, three of Atomflot’s four icebreakers are deployed for sea operations, while “Vaygach” is undergoing regular repairs. The vessel will stay in Mourmansk till mid August when it will be replaced by “Taimyr” icebreaker.
The tourist season opened by “50 Let Pobedy” icebreaker is in full swing now. The ship has already delivered 239 tourists from different countries to the North Pole. The last voyage of this year is scheduled for August 1 – 12.
