According to Atomflot press centre, on July 19 “Taimyr” nuclear-powered icebreaker successfully completed the escort of two vessels’ convoy towards Sabetta port.
On July 11 “Taimyr” undertook to escort BigRoll Beaufort module carrier, which was shipping cargo from Japan for Yamal LNG construction. Later on “Chukotka+” tanker joined the convoy in the East Siberian Sea. This vessel will be berthed in the Gulf of Ob for loading and further on head for Pevek.
“The convoy was escorted for less than a week, which is an average time interval for the current ice conditions”, Andrey Smirnov said, Atomflot Deputy CEO for Fleet Operations. – “The whole Northern Sea Route is reported to have average ice conditions”.
At present “Taimyr” is building up another convoy headed for the east. The icebreaker will lead “Grigory Shelikov” and “Yermak” motorships as well as “Nickolay Trubyatchinsky” and “Geolog Dmitry Nalivkin” research vessels to Khatanga port for subsequent works in the Laptev Sea. Later on HHL ELBE vessel travelling eastwards will link up with the convoy. On completing the escort “Taimyr” will set a course for Mourmansk, its home port, for a regular overhaul.
