Emergency teams have managed to clean up most of oil slicks in Kuwait coastal waters resulting from a major oil spill near Al-Khafji and to localize the rest of them.

As reported by the Oil and Gas Information Agency, emergency workers continue airborne monitoring in order to detect more slicks. Issam Al-Marzouq, Kuwait Ministry of Electricity and Water, points out that the spill source is yet unknown. “We have taken samples of oil slicks to make a laboratory analysis and identify their source”, an official representative of Kuwait Oil Company said, as quoted by Oil and Gas Information Agency.
The oil spill happened on Saturday in South Kuwait, near the joint Kuwaiti-Saudi Al-Khafji oilfield. The total volume of spilt oil is estimated as 35 thousand barrels. Emergency teams will continue their works at the spill site till all accident impacts are removed.
