The day of shipbuilders will be celebrated on June, 29. Dmitriy Medvedev, Chairman of the RF Government, signed a corresponding resolution on Tuesday.

This professional day was initiated by Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (Minpromtorg) and United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSK). The date was chosen for a good reason – on June 29, 1667 Tsar Aleksey I issued a decree on construction of “Orel” ship. According to Russian Historical Society, “Orel” was the first naval vessel procured by the Government.

Currently Russia has over one thousand enterprises specializing in shipbuilding, ship repairing and manufacture of engines and hydroacoustical, navigational, supporting, deck and other types of equipment, vessel materials and completing parts as well as R&D in the area of ship construction and marine facilities. Over 200 thousand people are engaged in the shipbuilding sector including related services.
